Birds remain active all winter at Huntley Meadows Park. How can they find food? By working together! Mixed species feeding flocks forage together while remaining alert to predators. Discover this social feathered phenomenon!

Naturalist-led class where child and parent explore nature through hikes, stories, songs, hands-on activities and crafts. Topics vary seasonally.
(Ages 9 and up) 2:30-3:30 pm.
Chase away your winter blues with a walk on the 'other side' of the park. Come look for winter hawks, waterfowl, bluebirds and finches while exploring the park's native meadows and wetland overlooks. Meet at the South King's Hwy. entrance. Children must be accompanied by a registered adult.
Winter Birding
(Adults), 8-11 am.
Learn about winter birds in the park plus some basic identification skills. Program ends with an indoor discussion.
Nature for Tiny Tots (24mos-42mos)

Children and their parent learn about plants, animals and their habitats through songs, crafts, and activities. Supply fee of $5 is due to instructor at first class. Adult participation is required.

We introduce early learners to STEAM education (Science, Engineering, Technology, Arts, Math) concepts through active, hands-on investigations and experiments in nature with the guide of a naturalist. Children learn how to use binoculars, magnifying glasses and field microscopes to deepen their observations and investigations. Come outside with us to have fun and learn about the wild world around us!

Discover the secret world of owls. Learn what makes these raptors excellent night predators with a presentation followed by a trail hike to hopefully hear or spot one of Huntley's resident owls. Children must be accompanied by a registered adult.
Winter Birds and Feeder Workshop
(Ages 4 and up), 12-2 pm.
Join us to learn about the resilient birds that call Huntley Meadows Park and your backyard home during winter. Make your own pine cone bird feeder to take home and watch as your new friends visit. Learn how to identify winter birds through calls, games and activities. Children must be accompanied by a registered adult.
(Ages 12 and up), 10 am to noon
Join park naturalist and artist Margaret Wohler for a hike and learn sketching techniques to enhance your observation skills
(Ages 6 and up), 11 am to noon
Did you know that origami comes from the Japanese words ori meaning folding and kami meaning paper? In this workshop, you can learn how to transform paper into native animals, flowers and other fun shapes.
(Ages 7 and up) 5 - 7 pm.
A naturalist takes you on a relaxing stroll through the park at dusk to tour the woods and wetlands to watch and listen for beavers, owls and other nocturnal residents. Children must be accompanied by an adult registered in the program.
(Ages 12 and up), 1 to 2 pm
In honor of Huntley residents who loved both books and art, we offer a set of classes that introduce different aspects of the art of booking making. Calligrapher Mary Teichman says that 'calligraphy is a great antidote to modern life.' Explore the art of beautiful writing with a variety of pens and brushes. These classes may be taken along or in combination.
